Assam recently received Geographical Indication (GI) tags for four traditional handloom and craft products, strengthening the recognition of the state’s rich tribal heritage and indigenous craftsmanship. The four newly GI-tagged products are:
Karbi Anglong Handloom Products
Deori Handloom Products
Assamese Bamboo Craft (Bah Silpa)
Bihu Pepa (traditional musical instrument)
The GI recognition will help preserve the authenticity of these traditional products, protect them from imitation, and provide greater market opportunities for artisans and weavers in India and abroad.
