Tamil Nadu has announced that devotees will not be allowed to carry mobile phones inside major temples from September 1, 2026. The directive has been issued by the state’s Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department.
The move aims to protect the sanctity and spiritual atmosphere of temples and prevent unauthorised photography, videography, selfies and social-media reels inside temple premises.
📌 Devotees will be able to deposit their mobile phones at designated secure counters before entering the temples. A ₹5 fee per phone may be collected, with receipts issued through the Integrated Temple Management System (ITMS).
