India-Russia cooperation is expanding beyond its traditional areas into several emerging sectors. But which areas are gaining greater importance?

India and Russia are broadening their partnership into technology, innovation, trade, education, energy and industrial cooperation. Recent discussions have also highlighted areas such as AI, advanced technologies, critical minerals, manufacturing, aviation and railways.

At the September 2026 meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin, the two sides reviewed cooperation in trade and economy, defence, energy, space, skill mobility and people-to-people ties.
